The project goal was to improve the nutrition status of SAM, MAM children (Male/Female) and of women reproductive age by effective nutrition services.
- Support the effective implementation of BNPMC by increasing the coverage of the planned nutrition interventions
- Access of population to nutrition services.
- Support the program management in achieving the key performance indicators in the areas.
Campaign Mode Screening Activities
The team composition for each team including male and female staff was made as per area coverage. The team visited every targeted area of district Kohlu in all UCs and does door to door screening by using MUAC tap (<11.5 SAM, <12.5 MAM and >12.5 as normal been recorded) and record the details on prescribed formats provided by BNPMC. PLWs screened by female nutrition worker and children MUAC by both male and female team members.
BCC Sessions held with Support Groups
Behavior change communication sessions had been conducted in different UCs with male and female supportive groups on maternal and child nutrition, infant young child feeding IYCF practices, micro-nutrient supplementation and WASH. CNWs and SMs particularly focused during sessions on early initiation of breast feeding, exclusive breast feeding for up to six months, timely and appropriate complementary feeding, breastfeeding up to two years or beyond, hand washing and personal hygiene, importance of immunization and awareness regarding polio vaccines. 3215 sessions had been conducted with men and women supportive groups while discussed briefly on importance of Behavior change communication (BCC) that is an interactive process with communities (as integrated with an overall program) to develop tailored messages and approaches using a variety of communication channels to develop positive behaviors; promote and sustain individual, community and societal behavior change; and maintain. In addition, key messages regarding the special nutritional needs of PLWs and the importance of female education and its link with healthy children was also disseminated within the communities.
BCC Sessions held with School Students
Behavior change communication sessions had been conducted in both girls and boys Middle and High students and as well with teachers on Nutrition, Balance Diet, Wash, Anemia, Complementary Feeding, Food Diversity and Vaccination. Discussed that people who have successfully made positive change in their lives go through five specific stages such as pre contemplation, contemplation, preparation, action, and maintenance All participants participated activity and got valuable knowledge and information regarding said topics.
Distribution and Use of IEC Materials
IEC materials regarding awareness raising among communities on IYCF, use of RUTF, Use of MMS and IFA, provided to all District project staff including male and female (Community Nutrition Worker, Nutrition Assistant and Social Mobilizer) for disseminating in communities. Accordingly, the team members are distributing the IEC materials among the communities during sessions on IPC and BCC activities. It has been experienced that the communities are getting sufficient knowledge through IEC materials and started compliances toward positive attitudes and good practices. The team has also provided IEC materials to school students during BCC sessions being held in different schools of Kohlu District.
District Level Coordination Meeting
Program section head office HOPE Balochistan regularly held coordination meetings with DHO, DCNP, PHI-DSM at district level and at provincial level with BNPMC PUM staff. The purpose of meetings was to present the progress reports and discussions on different field issues for immediate actions, require facilitation on risks identified by monitoring teams, support in the reporting formats, data management tools and for payment timely financial tranches for the smooth implementation of nutritional services. PMU-BNPMC team ensured their fully support during the activities. The DNO has showed his technical support in implementation of BNPMC activities and appreciated efforts of HOPE Balochistan in provision of nutrition services in Kohlu district.
